Frank Mill

Forward Frank Mill was on the West German football team that lost their quarter-final against Yugoslavia 5-2, and finished fifth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In 1988, the West German team won the match for third-place against Italy 3-0, and Mill collected the bronze medal. Therefore, the team and all players were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Mill won 17 full international caps and played with the Olympic team 20 times, scoring 10 goals. His greatest moment came in 1990 when he was a member of the West German FIFA World Cup squad in Italy, although he was only a substitute and did not play in the tournament.

Domestically, Mill played with Rot-Weiß Essen (1976-81), VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach (1981-86), Borussia Dortmund (1986-94) and Fortuna Düsseldorf (1994-96). In 1989 he won the West German Cup with Dortmund. In total, he played 386 Bundesliga matches and scored 122 goals.

Mill trained as a florist in his mother’s shop and later became an entrepreneur running football schools all over Germany under the name “Kidsactive”.
