Uwe Rahn

Forward Uwe Rahn was on the West German football team that lost their quarter-final against Yugoslavia 5-2 and finished fifth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Rahn won 14 full international caps scoring five goals and also played with the Olympic team five times and scored four times. His greatest moment came in 1986 when he was a member of the West German squad that finished runners-up to Argentina in the FIFA World Cup in Mexico, although he was only a substitute and did not play in the tournament.

Domestically, Rahn played with VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach (1980-88), 1. FC Köln (1988-90), Hertha BSC Berlin (1990-91), Fortuna Düsseldorf (1991-92), and Eintracht Frankfurt (1992-93). In total, he played 318 Bundesliga matches and scored 107 goals. He then moved to Japan playing with Urawa Red Diamonds until 1995. Rahn was West Germany’s Player of the Year in 1987 when he was also that season’s Bundesliga’s top scorer with 24 goals. He later became a stock trader.
