Georg Stollenwerk earned 23 international caps between 1951 and 1960, scoring two international goals. He placed fourth with the German national team at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and 1958 World Cup in Sweden. Until 1953 he played for Verein für Jugend- und Volksspiele 1896 Düren and SG 1899 Düren, and then for 1. FC Köln (Cologne). He débuted on 22 September 1951 for Germany’s second amateur team against Austria to qualify for the 1952 Olympics. In May 1952 he played for the German A-team for the first time in a match against Great Britain. Chief coach Sepp Herberger wanted him to move to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, but he went to 1. FC Köln in 1953. Therefore he was not regarded for the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, where Germany triumphed to win its first title.
With 1. FC Köln Stollenwerk became German Champion in 1962 and runner-up in 1960 and 1963. He was also West German Champion in 1954, and 1960-63. During the first Bundesliga season (1963/64) he was on the squad in his last season, but did not play in any match for Köln, with the team winning that year’ Bundesliga. He then coached 1. FC Köln’s reserve team during the 1960s, which was known as the “Stollenwerk”-team. He later also coached Alemannia Aachen, TuS Langerwehe and again the 1. FC Köln in 1976 in the Bundesliga. Although he started his education as a hardware dealer in the early 1950s, he later became a paper and cardboard packaging wholesaler.
