Ilias Rosidis initially joined Olympiacos CFP as a track athlete in sprint distances but, after substituting for an injured player, decided to transfer to the club’s football section. From 1948 through 1961 he made 143 appearances for the club and won the Greek Championship seven times (1951 and 1954-1959) and the Greek Football Cup nine times (1951-1954 and 1957 through 1961). Between 1951 and 1960 he earned 29 caps with the national team, perhaps most notably at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Greece was eliminated after losing its qualifying round match against Denmark 2-1. He captained the national team from 1954 through 1960 and, in 2004, was a torchbearer in the relay to that year’s Olympic Games in Athens.¬¬
