András Bérczes started his sports career at the age of 14 as a football player with PVSK and from 1929 he became a member of the first team. In the 1930s, he was selected to the Southwest, Railway and Hungarian B national teams. He was called by big teams in Budapest, such as MTK, Újpest, Elektromos, but he remained loyal to his city and friends.
As a member of the Hungarian amateur national team, he took part in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In the 63rd minute of the first and only match of the Hungarian team Bérczes was seriously injured. He was taken by an ambulance and was immediately operated on. He had to miss a year because of the serious injury. Although he played for PVSK for five more years after recovering , he never regained his old form again.
He was employed by the Hungarian Railway for the rest of his life, from which he retired. He also worked as a coach, for example at the Locomotive SC in Barcs in 1947.
Hungary
