Biography

István Juhász joined Ferencváros in 1959 where he played through the youth teams before making his senior début in 1963. During his thirteen seasons as a Ferencváros player he scored 87 goals in 480 matches. He won the Hungarian championship four times with the team (1964, 1967, 1968, 1976), and the Hungarian Cup three times (1972, 1974, 1976). He was also a member of the team that won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the 1964/65 season.

Juhász was a member of the Hungarian team that won the gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where he played in an unusual way, with a ruptured lung. He played in six matches at the tornament, scoring one goal in the final against Bulgaria (the result was 4-1). He played 23 times for the Hungarian national football team, with which he achieved fourth place at the 1972 European Championship held in Belgium. In 1973 Juhász was named the Footballer of the Year.

He received his doctorate from the Faculty of Political Science and Law at the Budapest University. In the second half of the 1970s he managed the FTC’s sports facility. In 1996 he was an employee of the Hungarian Football Federation, and then the FTC’s youth coach.
