Pál Várhidi was a Hungarian defender who played with the famed Mighty Magyars in the early 1950s. In addition to his bronze medal at the 1960 Olympics, Várhidi was on the 1954 Hungarian World Cup team, but did not get into any matches. He earned 10 caps with the Hungarian national team. Várhidi started his youth career with Újpesti Törekvés SE from 1942-46, then moved to Wolfner SE in 1946-49, but he played his entire senior career with Újpesti Dózsa, helping them win the Hungarian League in 1959/60. Várhidi later became a coach, briefly with Vác and BEAC, but coaching Újpesti Dózsa from 1974-80, and leading them to four national club titles, and the 1974 European Cup semi-final. His son, Péter Várhidi coached the Hungarian national team from 2006-08.
