Muhammad Salaam played club football mostly for Mohammedan Sporting, leading the club to the Kolkatta Football League title and the IFA Shield in 1957. He was a defender who played at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Salaam later became a coach, guiding India to the 1974 Asian U-19 Cup title, where they were joint winners with Iran. He coached at Andhra Pradesh, and was the first coach at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, where he retired from coaching as deputy director.
