Biography

Darioush Mostafavi was an Iranian football player and sports executive. As a player Mostafavi represented several clubs during his career, including Taj SC and Persepolis F.C. From 1964 to 1971 he also played for the Iran national team, including in their group matches against Mexico and Romania at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. From 1994 to 1997 Mostafavi served as the President of Iran’s football federation. Under his leadership the national team finished third at the 1996 AFC Asian Cup and qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup after beating Australia in a two-leg play-off in November 1997. Mostafavi also served as the chairman of his former club Persepolis F.C. from 2008 to 2009.
