Ahmed Radhi was a striker who played football for Iraq at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also helped Iraq win gold at the 1982 Asian Games and helped them win the Gulf Cup in 1984 and 1988. Radhi competed at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He earned 121 international caps, scoring 62 goals before retiring in 1997. At his retirement he was Iraq’s joint-second most capped player. In 1988 he was voted Asian Player of the Year, the only Iraqi to win that honor (through 2020). Domestically Radhi won five Iraqi league titles with Al-Rasheed and Al-Zawraa.
After his retirement Radhi spent some time as a club manager in Iraq. In 2020 he sadly contracted the coronavirus and died from the effects of COVID-19.
