Raffaele Ametrano started playing with the youth teams of SSC Napoli but later, in a peripatetic career, played for Ischia Isolaverde (with which he made his professional début), Udinese, Juventus FC, Hellas Verona, Empoli FC, US Salernitana, Genoa CFC, Cagliari Calcio, Crotone, SSC Napoli, U.S. Avellino, Potenza Calcio, and ACR Messina. From July 2008 to May 2010 he wore the yellow-blue jersey of S.S. Juve Stabia, the club from his hometown, after which he retired from competitive activity.
Internationally, Ametrano played for Italy’s U-21 squad, making his début on 20 December 1994 in a victorious home match against Turkey. With this team he won the 1996 European U-21 Championship. He was selected for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic tournament, playing the last match against South Korea.
