Giovanni Azzini

Giovanni Azzini, a midfielder, is mostly remembered for being accused of fixing a game that his team Calcio Padova lost on 30 March 1958 to Atalanta Bergamasca 3-0. He maintained that the key witness, his ex-girlfriend Silveria Marchesini, was lying as revenge for him leaving her; however, he was found guilty and banned from football for life. The ban was later reduced to two years on appeal.

Azzini played his only game for the Italian national team on 21 July 1952 in a game against Hungary during the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. He played for five seasons in Serie A for Calcio Padova, playing 152 games, and scoring two goals.
