His playing career saw him play 17 consecutive seasons in Serie A, turning out for some of Italy’s top teams, Torino, Lazio, Juventus, Parma and Internazionale, on loan. He also had a loan spell in England, with Nottingham Forest. Baggio won the UEFA Cup three times, twice with Parma (1995 and 1999), and once with Juventus (1993). Also in 1999, he added the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup. He won the Serie B title with Torino in 1990, and the following year helped them win the Mitropa Cup.
At international level, Baggio won 24 under-21 caps, and was part of the team that won the 1992 European Under-21 Championship and also competed at the Barcelona Olympics that same year, playing in three games. Between 1991-99 Baggio won 60 senior caps and scored seven goals. He was in the Italian team that lost on penalties to Brazil in the 1994 FIFA World Cup final, after the first ever goalless final. He also represented Italy at Euro ’96 and the 1998 World Cup.
