A left-sided midfielder-forward, Carlo Biagi made only four appearances with the Azzurri, all during the Olympics, when only amateurs could compete. In the quarter-final match against Japan (8-0), Biagi scored four times, an unprecedented feat for Italian footballers at the Olympics. In 1937 he went to Paris to compete in the Students’ World Championships. The spell with the national team did secure him a spot in Serie A, having previously suited up with Viareggio, where he started playing at the age of 15 with Prato and Pisa in lower divisions. He remained with Napoli until the outbreak of World War II, when he volunteered to serve in the conflict. After the war, in 1945, he resumed playing in Lecco. With Perticara – sponsored by the Montecatini company – he earned a promotion in Serie C as a player-coach. In honor of his sporting achievements, Biagi was awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
