Massimo Briaschi was a hard working forward capable of playing on the wing or as a striker. He started his career at Vicenza in 1975 before eventually arriving at Juventus in 1984 via Cagliari and Genoa. Brisaschi is best remembered for his time at Juventus, where he won the European Super Cup in 1984 and the European Champions’ Cup in 1985, when Juventus beat Liverpool in a game marred by the tragic death of 39 people before the start of the match at the Heysel Stadium, Bruxelles. Juventus also won the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo later that year. The following year, 1986, he won his only Serie A title and, following a return to Genoa in 1987 Briaschi collected a Serie 2 winner’s medal in 1989.
Despite not winning a senior international cap, Briaschi won four under-21 caps in 1978-79. He played in just two matches for Italy in the 1984 Olympic tournament, the full 90 minutes against Costa Rica and the second half in the bronze medal match against Yugoslavia.
