Thomas Enqvist was a Swedish tennis player who played professionally from 1991 to 2005. Enqvist achieved a career-best singles ranking of number four in the world in November 1999. When he retired from the sport he had earned more than $10 million in prize money.
Enqvist won his first ATP singles title in October 1992 in Bolzano, Italy, beating Arnaud Boetsch. He won a total of 19 ATP singles titles and one doubles title during his career. His best result in a Grand Slam was when he reached the final of the 1999 Australian Open, losing to Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Enqvist competed in the singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he lost in the third round to Leander Paes of India. Between 1996 and 2000 he won three of the four finals he contested in the Masters Series. Enqvist returned to the Olympics in 2004, competing in the singles and doubles in Athína, but lost in the first round in both.
Enqvist’s career included playing on Sweden’s Davis Cup team, becoming the Vice-President on Team Europe in the Laver Cup, and wprlomg as a commentator for Eurosport. In February 2022 he became the coach of the Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas.
