De Vroet played his first match for the first team of Feyenoord in 1937, and was selected for his first international a year later. An attacker, he never scored for the national team, despite playing 22 matches through 1949, including 14 as a captain. His international career came to an end when he decided to become a professional in France, causing him to be banned from the national team as the Dutch federation only allowed amateur players. In France, De Vroet played for Le Havre and Rouen, retiring after the 1953 season. He then became a trainer, notably at Be Quick 1887 (three different spells), Heerenveen and Le Havre. From 1966, he worked for the Dutch federation as a coach for the national U23 and amateur selections, and served as an assistant coach at the 1978 World Cup.
