Biography

Ivar Svensson played as a forward for IFK in his hometown Norrköping until 1913 and subsequently for AIK Stockholm (now AIK Solna). With AIK he won the Swedish cup championships in 1914 – not the least due to two goals by Svensson – and 1916 but had to end his career in 1917 due to an arthritic condition. He played his last match for AIK against his former club IFK Norrköping.

Svensson represented the Swedish colours in 21 international games including both matches at the 1912 Olympic tournament. Here, he scored two goals in Sweden’s 4-3 defeat against the Netherlands in overtime. He scored a total of 16 goals during his career with the national team which lasted from 1912-16. In 1926, he was awarded the “Stor Grabb” badge in football. He worked as a warehouseman and died of a heart attack at the age of just 40.
