Yevgeny Rudakov, the top Soviet goalkeeper at the start of the 1970s, took up football in 1960 with Torpedo Moskva. From 1961-62 he played with Sudostroitel Mykolaiv and from 1963 until the end of his career in 1977 he was with Dynamo Kyiv. With Dynamo Kyiv, Rudakov was on the Soviet champions in 1966-1968, 1971 and 1974-1975 and won the Soviet Cup in 1964, 1966 and 1974. Rudakov also won both the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 1975 with Dynamo Kyiv. Rudakov was selected as the best Soviet footballer of the year in 1971 and the best Soviet goalkeeper of the year in 1969, 1971 and 1972. Internationally, Rudakov earned 48 caps with the Soviet national team between 1968 and 1976, recording 35 shutouts. He won silver at the 1972 European Championships, bronze at the 1972 Olympic Games and also participated at the 1968 and 1976 European Championships. After finishing his sporting career, Rudakov worked for a long time as a children’s coach with Dynamo Kyiv, except two short spells to coach adult teams – in 1979 he coached Spartak Ivano-Frankivsk and in 1994 Kremin Kremenchuk.
