Although he had a short career, Giler was considered one of the best Yugoslav players of the 1920s. He played as a winger for Građanski Zagreb, winning the title in 1926 and 1928. He later played for Jugoslavija Beograd and FK Čukarički, where he closed out his playing career due to knee injuries and became a coach. He was selected 13 times for the Yugoslav national team between 1926 and 1932, scoring 3 goals. Giler was a Serbian (Danube Swabian), but during World War II he was recruited to the Wehrmacht as he was classified as an ethnic German. He deserted and joined the Serbian partisans, but in 1943 the Gestapo arrested him and sentenced him to death. It was enforced in December 1943.
