Forward Zlatko Papec started playing football with Lokomotiva Zagreb in 1952 and played there until 1955, when he started his compulsory military service in the Yugoslav Navy. After leaving the Navy he joined Hajduk Split in 1956 and stayed with the club until 1964, while from 1964-68 was with Freiburger FC in West Germany. In 1968 Papec returned to Yugoslavia and finished his career by playing one season with NK Rijeka and another with NK Junak Sinj. Papec was capped for Yugoslavia six times between 1953-56, scoring four goals. He made his début in 1953 in a friendly against Belgium and his last three caps came at the 1956 Olympic Games, where he played in the quarter-final, semi-final and final matches and won a silver medal. Papec was also a member of the 1954 Yugoslav World Cup team, but did not play. After finishing his sporting career, Papec worked as a football coach with NK Maribor and RNK Split.
