Ivan Šantek was a sweeper who started playing with Preč in Zagreb as a junior, joining NK Zagreb in 1952. He was with them through 1957 when he moved to Dinamo Zagreb from 1957-63, and then played out his last years with FC Wacker in Innsbruck from 1963-66. He won a national title with Dinamo in 1958. Šantek was on the Yugoslav national team from 1956-58, earning six caps and competing at the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
