On the victory platform, Herakleides was punched by Apollonius of Alexandria whose entry had been denied because he was late arriving in Olympia. Apollonius gave as his excuse strong winds in the Aegean Sea. In truth he had been in Asia Minor (basically modern-day Turkey) competing in minor Games to pick up cash prizes. Herakleides knew this and told the judges, and when he did so, this enraged Apollonius, who put on the boxing himantes and attacked Herakleides. For this, Apollonius was fined heavily.
