Kleomedes won the boxing crown in 492 BCE by killing his opponent, Ikkos of Epidauras, with a fatal blow. The blow was ruled a foul, and Kleomedes returned to Astypalaia in a rage. He pulled down a school pillar, killing 60 children when the building collapsed. For this, the Astypalaians pelted him with stones and he had to hide in a temple in Athina, although he escaped. The Oracle at Delphi eventually declared him a hero, but we’re not exactly sure why.
