In addition to his Olympic championship, Promakhus won the pankration three times at the Isthmian Games, and twice at the Nemean Games. He was motivated to victory at Olympia by a torrid love letter supposedly written to him by his girlfriend. In reality, his coach had forged the letter to motivate Promakhus. Pellene erected victory statues to Promakhus in both Pellene and at Olympia.
