Midfielder Ante Žanetić took up football with GOŠK Dubrovnik in 1953 and from 1954-61 played with Hajduk Split. With Hajduk, Žanetić won a Yugoslav title in 1955 and was runner-up at the Yugoslav Cup the same year. Žanetić was capped 15 times with the Yugoslav national team between 1959-60 and scored two international goals. He participated at the 1960 European Nation’s Cup, where Yugoslavia was the runner-up behind the Soviet Union, and at the 1960 Olympics, where he played in all five matches and won a gold medal. In 1961, while Hajduk Split was touring Denmark and Germany, Žanetić fled to the west and settled in Belgium. He played with Club Brugge from 1961-64 and then finished his career by playing with RWD Molenbeek from 1964-66. After finishing his sporting career, Žanetić emigrated to Australia, where he worked as a football coach in Sydney.
Serbian and football sources show his DoB as 18 November 1936, previously we had 18 January 1936.
