Margit Kövessi

Kövessi began her gymnastics career at the age of 16 in her hometown of Banská Štiavnica. In 1928 she participated in the Amsterdam Olympics as a member of the Hungarian gymnastics team. The Hungarian women’s team led after the first day but fell back to fourth on the second as a result of the Jury’s judgements. In November 1932, the board of directors of the Association of Hungarian Gymnastics Associations (MOTESZ) donated a large bronze medal to the members of the gymnastics team, with five ringed enamels and the engraved inscription “In memory and compensation - 1928”.

Kövessi was one of the first students of the College of Physical Education and at the same time studied mathematics and physics at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Budapest. In 1931, she won the first Hungarian individual all-around championship, which she repeated in 1933. After her sports career she worked as a physical education teacher.
