Italian sportswoman Carmela Toso competed in gymnastics and swimming, winning multiple medals in the latter. As a gymnast Toso was part of the Italian team that finished seventh in the all-round competition at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. She had better success in the pool when she won gold in the 400 metres freestyle at the 1933 Italian summer swimming championships. She also won silver in the same event at the 1937 summer championships, along with bronze in the 100 metres freestyle in 1932 and 1933.
