Mien van den Berg earned second place in the Dutch team selection event for the 1928 Olympics, earning a spot in the inaugural women’s gymnastics competition. The Dutch squad would win the poorly attended event quite handsomely and earn the country’s first Olympic medal in the sport. The team consisted of a number of Jewish members - Stella Agsterribbe, Lea Nordheim, Ans Polak, Elka de Levie, alternate Judikje Simons and coach Gerrit Kleerekoper - most of whom did not survive World War II and were killed in concentration camps. Individually, Van den Berg became the first Dutch all-around champion, winning the title in 1929. She was not successful in defending her title the next year, placing second.
