Carl Larsen was a member of the Danish gymnastics team that won silver in the Swedish system at the 1912 Olympics behind Sweden. Later, he changed his name to Branning. In 1918, he married Ellen Torné Andersen. They did not have children of their own but adopted a girl. Larsen lived near Helsingør and worked as station superintendent for the railway station in Hundested in Northern Zealand.
