Carlo Facchettin

Carlo Facchettin dedicated most of his life to volleyball, for which he earned a knighthood from the President of the Italian Republic in 1977. In the late 1950s, when the first regional committee of FIPAV (the Italian Federation of Volleyball) was elected, he was chosen by his colleagues as referee trustee.

In 1968 Facchettin became the first international referee from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, directing a France vs. Romania friendly. In addition to having refereed at all major European club competitions, he officiated at three World Championships and the 1976 Montréal Olympics. By the time he finished his refereeing career in 1983, he had over 500 appearances in Serie A and 260 in international matches.

After retiring, Facchettin never left the world of volleyball. Over the years he held various positions, from that of national referee commissioner to President of the Provincial Committee of Gorizia. Among his publications, the book Metodologia e Tecnica Arbitrale (Referee Methodology and Technique) stands out, a volume studied by generations of referees.
