John Holden

A key figure in in the history of officiating Australian basketball, John Holden founded the Referee’s Association in Frankston, Victoria in 1960 before becoming a referees coach five years later. Holden’s international career saw him officiate in more than 50 games, including matches at four Olympic Games, six Oceania qualification tournaments, and the 1978 World Championships in the Philippines. In Australia he also officiated in almost 90 NBL matches from 1979 to 1984. In addition to being a life member of five basketball associations in Victoria, Holden was also an honorary life member of FIBA. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
