Biography

Sidney Domville was a member of the Cardiff St. Saviour’s Gymnastic Club that were regular Welsh team champions in the early part of the 20th century. They were still a force to be reckoned with in the early years after World War I, and in 1920 Domville was their highest scorer as they finished third in the Adama Shield at the National Team Championship. He got selected for his second Olympics that year, 12 years after his only other appearance, at London in 1908. Domville spent most of his working life in the South Wales steel industry, and in the 1953 New Year’s Honours list he was awarded the MBE for his service at Curran Steels of Cardiff. It was the first New Year’s Honours list of Queen Elizabeth II after acceding to the throne.
