Born in French Tunisia, Aldo Cosentino moved to Paris in 1956 following Tunisia’s independence from France. When Cosentino was 16 he took up boxing at Red Star in Seine-Saint-Denis before he joined the military. On his return to civilian life he continued with boxing, becoming the French bantamweight champion (1967, 1969–72, 1974–75) and the featherweight champion (1973). In the bantamweight category at the European amateur boxing champions Cosentino won silver in 1969, before becoming the champion in 1973.
During the late 1960s and the early 1970s Cosentino boxed at three Olympic Games as a bantamweight. His best performance came at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics where, after receiving a bye, he defeated Kjell Fredriksson of Sweden before losing to Eiji Morioka of Japan. After the Montréal Olympics in 1976 Cosentino retired from the sport and worked as a coach to the French national team.
