In the early days of George Ross’ gymnastics career there was no English National Championship but Ross either competed or gave exhibitions at the German Gymnastic Club in London. He was a member of the Orion Club and was a team-mate of the first English Champion in 1896, Henry Cain.
Cain was one of the judges when Ross competed in the London Olympics in 1908, but the Great Britain team finished last of eight. Four years later in Stockholm, Ross, then aged 34, won a team bronze medal.
