German gymnast Karl Jordan competed at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, finishing fifth in the team all-around event. He also finished fourth in the free system team all-around. The team was represented the Allgemeiner Akademischer Turnerbund Leipzig.
Jordan studied zoology, botany, mineralogy, geology, chemistry, philosophy, and education at the universities of Jena and Leipzig from 1910-13. He then worked from 1919-48 as a biology and chemistry teacher at a secondary school in Bautzen. He was named professor of zoology, with a sub-specialty in entomology, at the Technical University of Dresden in 1949, retiring in 1957. In total, Jordan released twenty-five special posts on water bugs and water striders. There was also information about nepomorpha and gerromorpha of his in 14 faunistic works. Six species of the order of heteroptera (bugs) bear his name.
