Xavier Eluère was French amateur champion in the heavyweight class in 1920 and 1921. After that, he fought as a professional for two years, winning 7 of his 10 fights. He came from a very athletic family. His cousin Alfred Eluère was a rugby player and competed together with his brother in 1920 at Antwerpen, and his uncle Louis was president of the Stade Nantais Université Club. Xavier Eluère later worked as a street peddler.
