German gymnast Eberhard Sorge competed at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, finishing fifth in the team all-around event. He also finished fourth in the free system team all-around. The teams represented the Allgemeiner Akademischer Turnerbund Leipzig. Sorge studied theology. As a sergeant with the 4th Company 180th Infantry Regiment during World War I, Sorge was wounded but recovered. Later commissioned as a second lieutenant with the 120th Infantry Regiment Sorge he was wounded several more times before being killed in August 1918 in Bray-sur-Somme, France.
