Biography

Between 1948 and 1950, Rudolf Keszthely was a gymnast of the Pécsi EAC, between 1952 and 1953 the Kiskunfélegyházi Vasas, between 1953 and 1956 the TF Haladás, and between 1957 and 1962 the Budapesti Honvéd. In 1958 Keszthely won the individual all-round championship in Hungary, as well as winning two more individual and three team championship titles.

At the international team level he was a member of the Hungarian team that finished 12th both at the 1960 Roma Olympics and the 1962 World Championships in Prague. During his active sports career he obtained a physical education teacher’s certificate at the College of Physical Education. Between 1957 and 1985 Keszthelyi worked as a coach of the Ganz-Mávag, Budapesti Honvéd, Vasas Ikarus and Postás SE.

As a sports leader he was a member of the Competition Organizing Committee of the Hungarian Gymnastics Association from 1968. In 1983 he was the head of the organizing committee of the World Gymnastics Championships in Budapest. Between 1988 and 1990 he was a member of the management committee of the Budapest Student Sports Council. Keszthely was the President of the District Student Sports Committee. Between 1988 and 1989 he was a member of the working committee of the Hungarian Student Sports Association, and from 1990 he was the President of the MOTESZ School Committee.
