Dokan Sone graduated from the Japan Gymnastics School in 1935 and competed in gymnastics at the Berlin Olympics in the following year after winning several nation-wide events. He then worked as a high school teacher and for the factory section of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. In 1941, he returned to his hometown Takashi to work for the local government office.
