Tor Lund was a member of the Norwegian men’s gymnastics team, which won an Olympic gold medal in the all-around free system event. He was the son of a skipper and studied mechanical engineering first in Bergen and from 1912-13 at the ship department of the University of Glasgow. Until 1925, he worked as a draftsman, mechanic, and operations engineer, mostly in shipbuilding companies. He then worked for the consultant company I. M. Larsen (1926-43) and subsequently as co-partner in Engineers Lund, Mohr & Giæver-Enger (1943-58). During his professional career he resided in his hometown of Bergen. In 1918 Lund married the Scottish-born Isabella Begg Troup. The marriage remained childless.
