Lucius Vicary was a fast bowler with the Devon and Somerset Wanderers, but did not play in the 1900 Olympic match. A Devon county player, he was appointed president of the South Devon Cricket League in 1920. He was also a keen huntsman and rode with the South Devon Hunt, and was their honorary secretary and treasurer. Vicary came from a very famous Newton Abbott family who owned Vicary and Sons, tanners, fellmongers, and leather merchants. They were one of the biggest employers in Newton Abbott, and employed over 400 people in the 1920s. Lucius was a director of the company which, naturally, had its own cricket team.
