Andrew Mackie came from a well-known Somerset cricketing family with a long association with the Castle Cary club. Andrew’s father James was a former president of the club, while brother William captained the first XI during Andrew’s playing days. Castle Cary provided several players for the Devon and Somerset Wanderers at the 1900 Paris Olympics, but the name Mackie did for feature on the list of the 12 who played.
