Erik Granfelt won a bronze medal in tug-of-war at the 1906 Athina Olympics, and in 1908 returned as a member of the Swedish gymnastics team that won the gold medal. Erik Granfelt was the Swedish flagbearer at the 1908 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Two of his brothers, Nils Granfelt and Hans Granfelt were also Olympic athletes, with Nils winning a team gymnastics gold medal in 1912. Hans was a discus thrower at the 1920 Olympics and then returned 16 years later to compete in fencing at the Berlin Olympics. Erik Granfelt was also a high level footballer (soccer), helping AIK (Allmänna Idrottsklubben) win the 1901 Swedish Championship.
