Axel Janse completed his reserve officer’s exam in 1912. In the same year, he was a member of the Swedish team that won gold in the Swedish system team event at the Stockholm Olympics. Subsequently, he attended the Central Gymnastics Institute, from which he graduated in 1915. During this period, he made study trips to various places in Germany. Janse was the model for the bronze and stone sculpture “The Liberator” in Örebro. It was created by Swedish sculptor Gustav Adolf Karl Mauritz Hultström (1884-1973) and unveiled in 1914.
In 1915, he opened his own practice as physical therapist and fencing instructor. He then served in the Älvsborgs Regiment. Janse was also an aviation pioneer and completed his exam for a pilot’s licence as early as in 1918. He served in the Air Force for one year and became the first treasurer of the Aeroclub in Skåne. In 1919, he became an officer in the Malmö fire brigade and rose to the rank of deputy chief. He retired in 1944. In 1917, Janse married Else Gertrude Esskildsen from København; they had two daughters. Janse liked hunting and fishing. He received several medals in hunting and shooting.
