In 1912, Knut Torell was a member of the Swedish team that won gold in the Swedish system team event at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. He was a career officer and served in the Norrland Artillery Regiment that was stationed in Östersund. Over the years, he rose to the rank of captain and was appointed Knight of the Order of the Sword. In 1920 Torell married Svea Alexia Forsgren; they had a son and a daughter.
