Goalkeeper Sabine Adamik was a German handball player who was on the losing side in the third-place match at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, when Germany lost 20-24 to the Unified Team EUN. She started her sports career as an artistic gymnast and track and field athlete before turning to handball. She participated in the 1982 and 1986 World Championships, representing East Germany, and finished fourth on both occasions.
After reunification Adamik won the gold medal at the 1993 World Championships and the silver medal at the Europeans the following year. Adamik won 236 international caps and scored two goals. In 1986, she was named Handball Player of the Year in the former GDR. Domestically, she played with SC Magdeburg (until 1990) and TuS Walle Bremen, and won national titles in 1981 (with Magdeburg), and 1991 and 1992 (with Bremen). By profession, she became a graduated schoolteacher teaching sport and geography.
