Hungarian-born centre handball player Csilla Elekes came sixth with the German team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She played with the Hungarian national team until 1989 when she emigrated to Germany. In 1994, she became European Championship runner-up. Elekes won 144 international caps and scored 373 goals for Hungary, and a further 54 caps and 101 goals for Germany.
At club level, Elekes played in Hungary with BP Kőbánya Spartacus Budapest (until 1989) and Debreceni Symphonia VSC (1989-90), winning the national title in 1983 and 1986, the Hungarian Cup in 1988, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1981. In Germany she played with Tus Walle Bremen (1990-92), TV Lützellinden (1992-97 and 2000-06), Frankfurter HC (1997-98), and TV Mainzlar (since 2006). She helped Bremen win the German national title in 1991 and 1992, and also Lützellinden in 1993, 2000 and 2001. In between, she moved to Austria to Hypo Niederösterreich (1998-2000), winning the Champions League in 1998.
