German backcourt handball player Franziska Heinz came sixth with the German team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. In 1993, she won the World Championships and in 1997 was Female Handball Player of the Year in Germany. In 1994, she was European Championship runner-up and won a bronze medal at the 1997 Worlds. She won 187 international caps and scored 374 goals.
Domestically, Heinz played with SC Magdeburg (1986-94) and Borussia Dortmund (1994-2002) until her career was ended by an Achilles heel rupture. In 1997, she helped Dortmund win the German Cup.
Heinz later turned to coaching and had stints with lower league clubs such as Dortmund II, Bayer Leverkusen, SC Greven 09, DJK Westfalia Kinderhaus, SC DJK Everswinkel and HV Westfalen.
