Croatian-born handball player Jadranka Jez fled to Austria during the Bosnian War. She had won a bronze medal at the 1982 World Championships playing with Yugoslavia. She then received Austrian citizenship and qualified with Austria for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics where the team finished fifth. In total, Jez won 189 international caps and scored 384 goals.
At club level Jez played with RK Lokomotiva Zagreb and Hypo Niederösterreich, helping them to win the European Champions Cup in 1992.
